Does the book provide an opportunity for children to ask and answer their own questions?

This book provides many opportunities for students to ask and answer their own questions. It will answer questions such as, how plants grow, what do plants feed off, what animals help keep the plants alive, plants that live in the desert, water, and land. At the early grade levels learning the life cycle of the plant is one of the main topics that is talked about in the classroom.

Does the book encourage children to think for themselves?

This book does encourage students to think for themselves by having them create wonderings and make predications about different kinds of plants. It may also lead them to ask questions about plants that were not in the book. This could lead up to the children doing their own research about different plants.

Plants are addressed through out this entire book. It is a good read for the early grades. It talks about the life cycle of a plant and describes a few plants and their habitat and what they produce.

Yes, all of the information in this book contains factual information about plants. It gives students an opportunity to learn about a variety number of plants. It gives students information from plants you don’t usually find in your backyard. It talks about the life cycle of the plant and the different types of plants that live in different climates

This book does distinguish between fact and fiction. Most of the content in this book is based off of facts about plants. The photographs make the information can reassure the students that the information they are reading about is facts about plants.

Are the illustrations clear and accurate?

The illustrations are clear and accurate through out the book. The majority of the pictures in this book are mainly photographs of plants. The photographs help make the book back up its information that was stated.

Is the book written at the level of your students?

No this book is not written for my 3rd grade students. If I was teaching pre—k through 1st grade then yes, but for grades 2nd grade and up might be too easy for them

Is there a multicultural component? Is it free from stereotyping?

There is no multicultural component in this book, nor there is any stereotyping. If this book was stereotyping it would have talked about flowers only, but in this case it talked about a variety of plants, from flowers, to trees.

Yes, the book is free from gender bias. There is nothing that strictly points out male or females in the book. A variety of plants are presented in this book.

Does the book show the close association between science and other disciplines?

You can incorporate this book in science along with language arts. You can also incorporate geography and research different plants around the world. You can also have the students study what kind of plants grow in different climates.

The book mainly presents positive altitude towards science. There is no mention of technology in this reading. Nothing negative was stated about science in this children’s book.
